Just whipped up a few matching accessories for two of the "Steps to Stranded" prototypes I knit last year. My mom wants to give a present to the baby granddaughter of one of her friends and asked if I had any baby sweaters hanging around the apartment. What a silly question!
In fact I have four unclaimed baby sweaters hanging around the apartment. I'm kind of glad to be getting rid of these because I feel like holding onto that many baby items is probably jinxing my ability ever actually to have a baby myself.
Once again, Saartje's Booties come through! I adjusted this pattern to use sock-weight yarn and size 1 needles at a gauge of 8 stitches/inch, because Lorna's Laces is really quite thin. My adjustments: cast on 39 stitches, which makes 19 stitches on either side of the center stitch, increase to 63 stitches, then knit straight to 12 garter ridges. On decrease row k19, ssk 6 times, k1, k2tog 6 times, k19. BO center 27 stitches. For the straps CO 15 extra stitches to make straps 27 stitches altogether. Those notes make sense if you look at the original pattern. I knit them flat because I don't mind seaming and I hate purling, but in retrospect I'd probably use Fleegle's in-the-round variation.

What lucky babies! Hopefully, someday I'll be able to say I 'whipped up' something knitted in colorwork ;-). At this point in my knitting life, colorwork is quite daunting.
Would you mind sharing the patterns you used?
Blessings,
G
Firefly, the hat was just made up, CO 108 stitches and work until 5 inches, then decrease by 7 stitches every other round. The colorwork pattern is from my Steps to Stranded patterns. The booties are Saartje's Booties, linked in the post above.
These baby knits are absolutely adorable!
Gorgeous! I especially love the richness of that teal combination in the 2nd sweater. The recipients are going to squeal!
Yes dearies.. The recipients did squeal... Lillian is the 11 week old wearing this beautiful green adorb.. with the matching booties.. Jen did this fabulous artwork and even selected precious little buttons for the booties as well as the sweater. The booties have the most delicate elastic loops you can imagine.. with double over cross mary jane straps.. Really?... yes really! So glad she has some others on hand... hmmmm...
A note of appreciation is on route to the folks to be forwarded to Jen... but it is impossible to put i words how adorable this little ensemble is.
Thanks, Martha!!
In a geniunely interested in grammar way, is "...jinxing my ability ever actually to have a baby myself," correctly grammaritized? Should "actually" be in front of "to"? Is this a non-split infinitive?
I find it hard to believe the person who writes this blog is you. This is weird because your blog writing is exactly like you, but it's just so weird to think people who write blogs are real.
Also, I befriended you on ravelry!
